SPECIAL REPORT: The anatomy of a riot
Sep 18, 07 5:36pm

By all accounts, it could have been yet another ceramah, one of the many which have been held in Terengganu. But the ceramah in Pantai Batu Buruk on the night of Sept 8 was different.

The oppositon claimed that the police used unprecedented violence to disperse the crowd where speakers from Bersih - a coalition of political parties and NGOs to campaign for electoral reform - were to speak.

Pantai Batu Buruk will be remembered as the first time the police used live bullets against a group of protestors, resulting in two individuals being shot.

According to the police, the firearm was discharged in self-defence against a group of angry rioters. There, too, was the confusion over the number of bullets fired - initially one, then two, and now four.

Malaysiakini attempts to cut through the fog on the Pantai Batu Buruk riot with the following reports.
