Gov't scraps water privatisation plan

In a U-turn, the government has decided that water services will not be privatised or federalised after all - exactly the decision sought by a non-governmental lobby.

Water issue: Is Keng Yaik telling the whole truth?

"It's absolutely not true" - this was the rebuttal from water expert Charles Santiago over the government's announcement yesterday that the water privatisation plan has been scrapped.

Water: Don’t surrender without any guarantee

State governments should demand for guaranteed cheaper rates, and better quality and supply of water before they agree to the Water Services Industry and National Water Services Commission bills.

‘Corporatise’ state water

Energy, Water and Communications Minister Dr Lim Keng Yaik reiterated that the government is pushing for state governments to corporatise its water management services, and not privatisation.

It’s confirmed. The two water bills will be tabled next month when Parliament reconvenes beginning March 13.

Water bills, another name for privatisation

Over 250 people today unanimously rejected the Water Services Industry (WSIA) and the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) bills at a public consultation in Kuala Lumpur.

Water bills: The people’s version
