As a fourth generation Malaysian-Straits Chinese, I feel such great sorrow and grief as I read the news. Malaysia is a beautiful country with beautiful people, yet we believe the lies that people feed us. Malaysians, rise up and build our nation; we are in such bondage to the lies that are fed to us. Our minds are imprisoned. Thank you, Pak Lah for giving us a little key to be set free from our imprisoned minds. To my beloved Malay brothers and sisters, do you truly believe that you have failed and don't measure up? I don't. The Malays in Malaysia have the economic power for nation-building. This is proven by the hard- core facts of the NEP which reveal that the major financial institutions, government-linked companies and some private enterprises are under the ownership of the Malays. In fact my Malay brothers and sisters, the Chinese and Indians in this country have grown poorer over the past 50 years. The rich Chinese and Indians have already packed up and left the country. Why do you think the Indians took to the streets last year? You hold the keys to the future, you have the economic power. You also have the political power for transformation whether through PKR, Umno or PAS. You are in power. Whether through the judiciary, the syariah courts, the army, the police force etc, you have the political might and clout. You also have the thinkers and the youth who are willing to effect this transformation. You have the social power for transformation. The nation-building think-thanks amongst the youth leaders, the government agencies and the social networks are headed by Malays. Our nation's cultural responses are heavily influenced by the Malay world view. The Malays have shaped the educational system, the social welfare system and the women’s, family and community network. To my beloved Chinese brothers and sisters, do you truly believe that you have succeeded and the best route to take now is to get out? I don't. Do you still believe that the Chinese community is doing well and rich? Have you been to the Chinese squatter areas? Have you looked at how our young people want to sell guns, pirated CDs and drugs to make a quick buck? Are you aware of the many families who have been driven to the Ah Longs by the culture of greed and consumerism? Have you looked at the internet cafes which have kept our young people paralysed? What have we sown into our families? You want a hope and a future for your families and our children. You want life to be comfortable. You think we have succeeded when our children graduate with degrees and migrate to an economically wealthier land. But what have you really succeeded in imparting? Like our MCA forefathers, you have no vision except for economic prosperity. You are not interested in nation-building as you have not encouraged your children to sow for the future in Malaysia. With the current global financial meltdown (or some economists call it ‘greed management) it will be interesting what dreams my Chinese brothers and sisters will you give our children. To my beloved Indian brothers and sisters, do you truly believe that you are denied your rights and the best route is to fight for Indians only? I don't. Do you still believe that the Indian community is enslaved? I plead with you to reconsider. When the going gets tough, you demonstrate. You want a a better life. You want your rights. Do you truly believe that the social system is stacked against you? Or is that what certain people want you to believe in so that you can be manipulated? You think you have succeeded when life gets better, when there is equal opportunity and a race-relations act. However, what have you really succeeded in imparting? Like our MIC forefathers, you have no vision except pushing racial issues to get ahead. You may only be slightly interested in nation-building but you have not encouraged our children to break free from the slave mentality past. You are treasured and your sacrifices are much valued. As a nation, we are spiritually and morally impoverished and, my Indian brothers and sisters, you are the catalyst for restoration. To my beloved colourblind brothers and sisters, do you truly believe that Malaysia is your homeland and that it is worth fighting for truth, justice and freedom? Do we remember the days of the Japanese when we had to flee and live in houses built on top of the mangrove swamp trees ? Do we remember the days when we were poor and we shared with one another irrespective of race and religious beliefs? Out of human compassion, dignity and honour we treated each aother with love. Do we remember the days where we all had to sit in the sampan and flow downstream to safety amidst the fear, insecurity and hunger? When we were colourblind, we learnt to love and care for one another. When we were colourblind we served one another with whatever rice rations we had left. To my beloved Malaysian brothers and sisters, do we want to believe in lies? Do we want to continue to sit in this prison together, point fingers at one another in front of an unjust judge? Do we want to live in bondage? Or do we want to be set free to build a new Malaysia? |
